  with Selective Performance
Inductive sensors with selective performance distinguish ferromagnetic metals (such as iron and steel) from non-ferromagnetic metals (aluminum, brass, copper and stainless steel). They make use of the fact that different metals affect the LC resonant circuit under the active surface of the sensor in different ways according to their specific electromagnetic properties.
Ferromagnetic metals such as iron or steel can be magnetized by an external magnetic field. Sensors with selective performance for ferromagnetic metals switch as soon as a metal with this property is within the switching distance. Non-ferromagnetic material, such as aluminum, brass, copper, and various types of stainless steel, cannot be magnetized. Sensors with selective performance for non-ferromagnetic metals switch as soon as a non-ferromagnetic metal is within the switching distance.

Inductive sensors with selective performance are characterized by their high switching distance. Damage is prevented by the large distance between the object and the sensor. High demands on manufacturing tolerances are easily met and objects with different shapes are easily recognized.
